1. General information
Objectives:
- To provide a transversal and integrative approach to the processes of landscape configuration and to introduce students to the disciplines that study these processes.
- To provide students with design tools that will allow them to face intervention projects in the city or the territory taking into account, in addition to the urban aspects, environmental and landscape variables.
- To develop the student's critical capacity on different theories or trends related to the subject.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with some of the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, of the Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/) to the extent that this course develops tools for to solve urban and landscape projects from an environmental perspective, which allows the achievement of several goals of the SDGs.
2. Learning results
The student who takes this course will obtain the following learning results:
- Analyze: Competence to analyze the nature of projects with a global vision capable of integrating the urban and territorial variables.
- Understand: Ability to understand the processes of construction and transformation of the landscape.
- Implement: Ability to handle the specific design tools for landscape projects in coherent with the variables of scale and location.
- Critical analysis: To be able to elaborate a coherent argumentation with the support of specific bibliography elaborating properly structured contents.
3. Syllabus
In general, the following list of thematic blocks is proposed, which may be adapted or nuanced depending on the specific topic chosen in each year for the development of the workshop work:
- General framework
- Substrate: relief, geomorphology, etc.
- Water: hydrology, management, etc.
- Biota: biodiversity, vegetation, etc.
- Culture: heritage, history, etc.
- Public space and use
- Constructive resolution
On this set of topics, cross-cutting approaches to the blocks will be addressed, such as the processes with which they are interrelated, socio-economic variables, methods of representation, etc.
4. Academic activities
-Theoretical lessons (14h)
Theoretical sessions linked to the thematic blocks will be given throughout the subject.
- Supervised work/ didactic activities (12h)
In coordination with the theoretical sessions and keeping coherence with the theme planned for the workshop, each student will develop a specific work to be presented in class and delivered in writing at the end of the semester.
- Workshop work (22h)
Weekly sessions, of at least two hours, during the entire course.
- Travel or visits (8h)
At least one, in the initial phase of the workshop.
- Personal work (86h)
Work to be done outside the classroom for the development of the project proposed in the workshop.
- Evaluations (8h)
At least one partial delivery during the first half of the subject and a final delivery for both the workshop project and the tutored work.
5. Assessment system
The student must demonstrate that they have achieved the intended learning results through the following assessment activities:
A-Continuous follow-up:
The overall evaluation of the student will be done through a continuous monitoring of the exercise that is developed throughout the subject and that will be based on the practices of the workshop (80%) and on the activities of analysis and commentary of specialized texts (20%). In order to be able to average the grade of the sections, the workshop practices must be passed. For the evaluation of the practical exercise-workshop, at least one partial delivery will be established, the evaluation of which will allow the student to know the level of his work in that phase of the project. The final grade will be based on the work presented at the final delivery of the workshop. In order to pass the subject, these two blocks must be passed.
B-Without continuous follow-up:
Given the possibility that some students may not be able to attend several sessions for justified reasons, the following evaluation tests will be administered
-Practical exercise corresponding to the Workshop contents (70%)
-Written exam corresponding to the Theory Blocks (30%)
